RED BANK COUNSELING
DISTRESS TOLERANCE GROUP
TUESDAYS 7PM-8:30PM
DATES: 3/23/21-5/11/21
Facilitated by Kerry O'Connor, LCSW
This group is designed for individuals who currently struggle with tolerating distress. Distress tolerance helps people get through difficult times when emotions are running high. Group members will learn techniques and tools that help people to soothe themselves in healthy ways when they are feeling upset rather than becoming overwhelmed by emotions or hiding from them. This allows individuals to make wise decisions about whether and how to take action, rather than falling into intense, desperate, and often destructive emotional reactions. Distress tolerance skills also teach individuals how to use acceptance as a tool to reduce suffering and build a life worth living.
In conjunction with this weekly 90-minute group, individuals are encouraged to be involved in individual therapy with their own therapist.
