Are your resources tapped and gone?
Psychological services at Red Bank Counseling are offered in a welcoming environment that brings clients into deeper harmony and peace amidst the inevitable change of life. The focus begins with restoring natural wisdom towards reducing stress and strengthening awareness of vulnerabilities so individuals are better able to care for themselves in deeper authentic ways.
We look at the opportunities for learning, growing and lifting in the midst of suffering, turmoil and change. A natural outcome is compassion, wisdom and strength.
Do you notice more memory loss? Do you notice difficulty sustaining concentration and focus? Keeping information and contents of the mind in the direction you chose?
Anxiety and depression take a toll on cognition and getting things done. Practical function may suffer if the mind and emotions are clouding clear executive function. Similarly, in the rush of change and living, we can be overwhelmed with traumatic experience or perceive information as overwhelming and may not be able to fully process without the help of a therapeutic ally.
When is the last time you felt at peace?
Conflict shows up inside when we have competing beliefs or judgements and can challenge our sense of inner balance. Its natural that beliefs, assumptions and values progressively shift and change, however, when circumstances or traumatic conditions abruptly change, the capacity to process inner beliefs and emotions undergoes stress.
Similarly, conflict shows up in relationships. Sometimes the conflict is intensified because of our individual cognitive filters or bias. Awareness of our individual habits of mind and appreciative inquiry of others experience clear the space between one another for easier communication and potential mutual understanding.
Learning adaptive coping strategies in psychotherapy
As learning takes place, symptoms are relieved and self-care can flourish. When you take care of yourself it’s easier to take care of others.
When is the last time you were truly happy?
Happiness is a blessing. So is health, wealth, abundance, loving, sharing and caring. What will it take for you to be…the exploration of purpose, values and meaning deepening attunement and choices that lead to fulfillment, and positive well being? Through positive psychology or energy psychology modalities or spiritual direction…wise choices and personal responsibility for fulfillment.
I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the ability to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. You already have some strengths that you’ve used before, that for whatever reason aren’t working right now. Perhaps this problem feels overwhelming and is making it difficult to access your past strengths. In our work together, I’ll help you identify what those strengths are and how to implement them again in what is happening now.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, if you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
